Seminar on " PLC and SCADA" to 4th year EEE students
The Department of EEE, Jerusalem College of Engineering organized a seminar on " PLC and SCADA" to 4th year EEE students on 22/01/2019 in the "Smart classroom" of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. Resourse person for this session was Mr.Gopalan, Prolific systems.The staff in-charge of the session was Prof.Arul Prakash, A.P-EEE, Jerusalem college of Engineering. SCADA: SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. As the name indicates, it is not a full control system, but rather focuses on thesupervisory level. It is a computer system for gathering and analyzing realtime data. SCADA systems are used to monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as telecommunications, water and wastecontrol, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation. A SCADA systemgathers information, such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred,transfers the information back to a central site, alerting the home station thatthe leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such asdetermining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logicaland organized fashion. SCADA systems can be relatively simple, such asone that monitors environmental conditions of a small office building, or incredibly complex, such as a system that monitors all the activity in anuclear power plant or the activity of a municipal water system PLC: PLC is a digitally operating electronic apparatus which uses a programmable (through dedicated language such as Relay Ladder Programming) memory for the internal storage of instructions for implementing specific functions such as logic, sequencing, timing, counting and arithmetic to control through digital or analog input output modules, various types of machines and processes. The programmable controllers (PC) have developed as the heart of the automation of the industries. The PCs offer a number of advantages over the conventional relay control logic in many aspects like reliability, repeatability, programmability, compact design etc. Small controllers play an important role in the automation where such controllers are implemented in huge and complicated processes and plants. In such situations the communication among the PCs is of vital importance along with other aspects.
