The main objective of the department is to impart quality education to the undergraduate and postgraduate students in various areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members, holding/pursuing doctoral degree. The staff and students are members of various professional bodies like IEEE, IEI, ISTE, IETE etc.
The department has produced several Anna University ranks over the years. The students are well trained to acquire academic prowess, employment and life skills. Most of our students are placed in leading core industries and MNCs like Ingram Micro India, CTS, Atos Syntel, Odyssey, Tech Mahindra, Wipro. Our students have also received various awards such as Best ISTE Student Award, Dr. Kalam Young Achiever Award, Best Outgoing Student Award etc.
In addition to fundamental electronics laboratories, the department has state of the art laboratories in advanced domains such as Optical and Microwave Engineering, VLSI, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, etc., and a Project lab. A dedicated research lab with latest Software, advanced equipment and trainer kits are available for scholars and students interested in pursuing in-depth knowledge in their areas of interest.

The department has been approved as a Recognized Research Centre by Anna University, Chennai and has produced 3 doctorates. The Students of the department benefit from the vibrant association established with International and National Professional Societies through IEEE Student chapter, IETE Students Forum (ISF) and IE(I) Student Chapter .

The department has signed 20 MoUs with leading industries like IVW private limited, Chennai, LEFI AGRITECH, VECTOR India, AMC Engineering College, Gemicates Technologies Pvt Ltd etc to enable excellent Industrial and Institutional interaction. Workshops, seminars, industrial visits, guest lectures are organised in association with the industries.

Many funded projects total of worth Rs.19,00,000 from the organizations like Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Govt of Tamil Nadu, EDII Innovation Voucher Program(EVP) etc., has been successfully completed by the department faculty members.

Staff, Students and Scholars of the department have published more than 200 papers in various reputed and peer reviewed Journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, SCI , UGC and Anna University Annexured journals such as Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Fractals, Lecture Notes on Data Engineering and Communications Technologies, Cardiometry, Electric Power Components and Systems etc. Department faculty members are also reviewers in reputed journals such as Frontiers in Oncology, ISA transactions ELSEVIER, International Journal of Electronics Letters etc.

The Association of ECE (AECE) organises a National Level Technical Symposium, “INCENDIO” every year. Various technical events like Project expo, Paper presentation, Circuit debugging, Technical quiz, Technical Connections etc., conducted through the symposium help the students to showcase their technical skills and leadership abilities. Apart from academics, students also actively participate in extra-curricular, co-curricular and sports activities in State, National and International levels. Two technical clubs, namely, Ideate -Innovate - Launch (IIL) Club and Technovation Club provide avenues towards project development and emerging technologies respectively.
